First Canadian Editions in English of Non-Canadian

This collection extols the history of popular English language publishing in Canada. Canadian editions are wrongfully overlooked by many collectors of First Editions, assuming these editions are less valuable than their US or Bitish counterparts. This is an unfortunate and incorrect view: Canadian editions have generally been published contemporaneously with (and frequently in advance of) their British and American counterpoints and in the same language. Additionally, Canadian editions are much scarcer. The diminished demand created by Canada's small population dicated that historically, best-selling American or British authors published here often saw a first printing of less than a few thousand copies - a non-best-selling author even fewer. As well, we must consider the fascinating history of Canadian commercial book arts. Prior to WWII, commercial binderies in Canada were of no less merit in style and sturdiness than that of any other country.
