Common Coupon Errors

While redeeming a coupon is a fairly straightforward procedure, errors can sometimes occur.

The most common reason for a coupon discount to fail to apply is clicking the [Proceed to Checkout] button before clicking the [Update] button next to the Coupon Code field. Following the simple steps below will prevent this problem:

1. Verify the title, price, shipping speed, and quantity are correct for each item in your basket.

2. Enter your coupon code in the [Have a coupon code?] box, located at the bottom of the screen.

3. Click the [Update] button.

4. Check the Order Total at the top of the screen to verify that the coupon discount has been applied.

5. Click [Proceed to Checkout] to complete the checkout process.

Other Possible Coupon Errors:

• The coupon code must be entered exactly. Please check your coupon code for accuracy, i.e. spelling, and try again.

• All AbeBooks coupons are issued with an expiry date. An error message will be displayed if you try to redeem your coupon after that date has passed. Please check your coupon carefully for the expiry date.

• Some AbeBooks coupons require a minimum purchase. For example, a coupon might be redeemable for 10% off a minimum purchase of $10.00. If the total value of the items you are ordering do not meet that minimum, an error message will be displayed. Please check your coupon carefully for the minimum purchase requirement. (**Note: The minimum purchase amount does not include shipping charges.)

• Some coupons are intended for ‘first time buyers’ or ‘first time visitors’ only. A ‘first time buyer’ is defined as someone who has only purchased from our web site once before. A ‘first time visitor’ is defined as someone who has never purchased from our site before. If you do not meet the applicable requirement, an error message will be displayed. Please check your coupon carefully for the ‘first time buyer’ or ‘first time visitor’ designation.

• Each coupon can only be redeemed once. All subsequent attempts to redeem that particular coupon will result in an error message.

• Some coupons are restricted for redemption on only certain AbeBooks domains. For example, if you try to redeem a coupon on abebooks.com but that coupon is restricted for use on abebooks.co.uk only, an error message will be displayed.

• Due to legal requirements and/or restrictions in some countries, we're not permitted to apply discounts to certain items. In such cases, an error message will display and ineligible items will be identified with a red asterisk. *

** Please note that coupons can only be redeemed on orders for which the chosen payment method is Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or JCB. Coupon discounts cannot be applied to any other payment method.
