Updating Your Credit Card Information
Storing your credit card in your AbeBooks account and setting it as your default payment method makes the check-out process quick and easy. Your credit card data is encrypted on our secure server and is never shared with anyone, so you can feel safe and secure shopping on AbeBooks.com. You can easily add, update or remove cards from the Members Menu. Getting an error message when trying to save a new card? See the bottom of this page for help. * Important Note: If you have auto-complete enabled in your browser when you enter your card details, your browser will remember your card number in an un-encrypted format. This is a function of your browser, not of AbeBooks, and can be avoided by turning the auto-complete option off (through your browser's 'Options' menu) before entering your information. Accessing Your Credit Card Management Screen:
1. Sign on to your AbeBooks account with your email address and password. 2. Click [Manage My Credit Cards] under My Personal Info*. The Credit Card Management page displays details of the cards you have online, including the description that you can use to distinguish between your cards, (i.e. "corporate card," "my card," "rewards card," etc.). For added security, the credit card number is not displayed on this page. * Booksellers should click 'My Credit Card' under My Purchases to access the credit card management screen (for purchases only).
Adding a New Card to Your Account:
1. Select the type of card you want to enter from the 'Select Credit Card' drop-down menu. For example, if you are entering a new Visa card, select, "New visa." 2. Enter the card details and the associated billing address. Important Note: For your own security, please do not enter your credit card number in any field other than the designated 'Card Number' field. 3. Assign a Card Description to the card, i.e. 'Corporate Card' or 'Rewards Card,' to make it easy to identify for future purchases and updates. Note: You can only use a particular Card Description once. If you are saving subsequent cards, each must be assigned a unique Description. 4. Select the [Make this my preferred payment method] and [Make this my preferred shipping address] check boxes, if those options apply, to make checking out even faster and easier. 5. Click the [Save Changes] button to save the card information in your profile. Editing a Saved Card on Your Account:
1. Select your saved credit card from the [Select Credit Card] drop-down list. You can identify the card by the Card Description that you assigned to it. 2. Enter the correct credit card information and associated billing address. (Note: The card number cannot be edited. If you wish to update the actual card number, you will need to delete the card by clicking the [Delete Credit Card] button and then re-enter it as a new card.) 3. Click the [Save Changes] button to save the updated card information in your account profile. 4. Select the [Make this my preferred payment method] and [Make this my preferred shipping address] check boxes, if these options apply, to make checking out even faster and easier. *** Note: Once the [Save Changes] button has been clicked and your details have been successfully submitted, you will see a green check-mark icon with a message saying, 'Thank you - Your card details have been saved.' If there are any errors or incomplete or missing fields on the page, an error message will be displayed instead.***
Deleting a Saved Card on Your Account:
1. Select your saved credit card from the [Select Credit Card] drop-down list. You can identify the card by the Card Description that you assigned to it. 2. Click the [Delete Credit Card] button at the bottom of the page.
Error When Saving: When saving a Credit Card, you must assign it a unique Card Description. If you try to save a new card and assign it a Card Description that you have already used, you will get the following error message: The Card Description you have selected already exists. To update the existing card information, please select it from the Select Credit Card list and make your changes. To save the entered information as a new card, please enter a different Card Description For example, last month you saved a MasterCard and assigned 'My Card' as the Card Description. Today, you are trying to add a new Visa and assign 'My Card' as the Card Description but you get the error message above. This means the Card Description 'My Card', not the actual credit card, already exists in your account. To resolve the error you can do one of the following: 1. Enter a different, unique Card Description for the new card you are trying to save and click [Save Changes]. 2. Click the Select Credit Card drop-down list and select 'My Card.' This will display the previously-saved 'My Card' so you can either edit the Card Description or delete the credit card - doing either will make 'My Card' available for you to assign to the new card.
