Returns and Refunds

 

Our booksellers strive to maintain excellent customer service and satisfaction, including a guarantee of every book as it's described on our web sites. You're eligible for a refund within 30 days of your order's estimated delivery date if you're dissatisfied with your purchase due to an error on the bookseller's part or if the book doesn't arrive.

How to Initiate a Return or Refund:

 

1. Click [sign on] and enter your Email Address and Password.

2. Click [View My Purchases] from the Members Menu.

3. In the list of orders that appears, find the book for which you'd like to initiate a return and click [Item Details]. In the Item Details screen, click [Request Return/Refund]. (Seeing a 'no longer eligible' message? See below.*)

4. Select a reason for the return from the drop-down list. An explanation of the reason codes can be found here.

5. Add any additional comments. These comments are displayed to the bookseller.

6. Click [Initiate Return/Refund].

 

Important Notes:

v  If the bookseller has provided tracking information for the order, a refund will not be initiated for ‘Item did not arrive’. You will be given the tracking number and asked to contact the shipping company.

v  Refunds for ‘Item did not arrive’ cannot be initiated until 8 days after the Estimated Delivery Date. If 8 days have not yet passed, please use the [Ask Bookseller a Question] button to send an inquiry directly to the seller instead.

v  Return shipping labels are not provided. If you are entitled to a refund for return shipping, an amount equal to the original shipping charge will be added to your refund when the bookseller receives your book.

v  Once you initiate a return, you will be given the ability to provide shipping and tracking information. If you have not yet shipped the book to the seller, you can return and enter the information at a later time.

v  We recommend that you include a copy of the Return Confirmation email in the package so that the bookseller can easily identify your return upon arrival and process your refund in a timely manner.

v  Your refund will be completed by the bookseller as soon as they receive your book back. Our system allows 28 days for return receipt for domestic returns; 90 days for international returns. If the bookseller does not receive the book within those timeframes, you will be asked to provide tracking information. If none can be provided, the return will be cancelled.

* If you see a message displayed below the [Request Return/Refund] button, indicating that your item is no longer eligible for an automated return or refund, this could be for one of the two reasons below:

1. Your request exceeds the 30 day maximum time frame. You may submit your request directly to the bookseller but sellers are not required to accept returns or offer refunds after the 30 day time frame has expired.

2. You have already had one return/refund request for this item cancelled. Once a request is cancelled, you cannot submit a new request through the automated system. Instead, please submit your request through the [Ask Bookseller a Question] link.

 

How to Insert Tracking Information:

We recommend that buyers ship all returns by a trackable method to ensure that delivery to the bookseller can be confirmed.

1. Sign on to your AbeBooks account with your email address and password.

2. Click [View My Purchases] in the Members Menu.

3. Find the order in the order list.

4. Click [Item Details].

5. Click [Return Details].

6. Insert the Shipping Company, Tracking number and Shipment Date in the fields provided.

7. Click [Save].
