MOSHER BOOKS was started as a retail book firm in February 1991 and operate, by appointment, from our home office in Millersville, PA. The firm's namesake is the American publisher, Thomas Bird Mosher, who published fine literature in pleasing book formats from 1891-1923. We maintain a highly selective stock of 300-500 fine and rare antiquarian books. Quality & Service, not quantity, is emphasized. Bibliographic research & book descriptions provided. Books range in price from $50 to $10,000.

Our Motto: "MOSHER BOOKS: Finding the Best Homes for the Best Books"

We rarely issue catalogues, and send some lists by subject area to pertinent customers. We issue prospectuses on individual items or collections in which we feel our clients will have an interest, and will forward JPEG images on any book of interest to clients. We also perform appraisals for insurance or estate purposes.

The proprietor, Philip R. Bishop, is co-author of the exhibition catalogue Thomas Bird Mosher and the Art of the Book (Philadelphia, 1992, 112 pp.). His newest book, Thomas Bird Mosher: Pirate Prince of Publishers—A Bibliography and Source Guide is co-published by The British Library and Oak Knoll Press. For more information on Mr. Bishop and his writings, see

http://www.millersv.edu/~mosher/other/bishopbio.html

and be sure to check out the Mosher Press website edited by Mr. Bishop and maintained by Millersville University at

http://www.millersv.edu/~mosher/index1.html

Mr. Bishop buys & sells single books or small collections in these areas: fine bindings & sets, early imprints, early illustration, some private press, fine printing, classics, literature and philosophy, Mosher Press* and Victorian or unique bindings. In general, we handle interesting and unusual high quality books (and related historic artifacts) in a variety of fields for the serious collector. _________________________________________________
