| WE'LL BE AT THESE UPCOMING SHOWS: Northeast Horseman's Conference & Trade Show, Sturbridge Host Hotel, Sturbridge, MA, Feb. 11-12; and Everything Equine, South Burlington, VT, April 29-30. Scholarly art and architecture books at College Art Association, Hynes Convention Center, Boston, Feb. 23-25, plus a shop sale for CAA attendees. WHAT'S NEW--HORSE BOOKS: I'm preparing two printed offerings of scarce and antiquarian horse books--a list of Some Collectible Books in All Fields (January), and a major catalogue of The Long Century of Horse Power (1780-1920 imprints; March). Please send 63-cent SASE for the list, and $2 for the catalogue (deductible from order). WHAT'S NEW--ART AND OTHER BOOKS: I've bought many books from the estate of a prominent artist-critic and am steadily adding them to ABE. I'm also adding many scarce older bookseller catalogues on a wide variety of subjects, under "Bookseller Catalogues" when you browse ABE. They will especially interest book historians and specialist dealers.
ABOUT THE SHOP: In 1973 I began selling out-of-print art and horse books under the name Blue Rider Books, which reflected both specialties. Along the way I changed the name because people thought I sold only Blaue Reiter material, but many customers still recall Blue Rider Books. Since 1983 my colleague H.L. Mendelsohn and I have shared a shop just outside Harvard Square. Harvey specializes in architecture and design, especially of the 19th-20th centuries, and his books are also on ABE. HOURS & DIRECTIONS: We're open Tuesday through Saturday, 11-6, and other times by appointment. Occasionally we have to close the shop briefly, so please call ahead if you're coming from a distance. We're tucked behind a group of shops and not visible from the street. Look for the small grey-green signs on the fence alongside Tocco Classico hair salon, go into the garden, and into the basement of the house in the garden. We're near Starbucks, an antique shop, Marathon Sports running store, and several good restaurants and specialty stores. We're easily reached by the Red Line T (10-minute walk from either Harvard or Porter Square), or by the frequent number 77 bus, which stops across the street just before the Alamo/National car rental office. Welcome! CAN'T GET TO CAMBRIDGE? You can also see my books at the Whately Antiquarian Book Center in Whately, MA, a few miles north of Northampton. Here's where I sell books in other subjects that come my way--cookbooks, gardening books, fiction, military history, travel, etc. Also lots of art, some horse books, and several shelves of $3 bargain books. APPRAISALS: I appraise collections for individuals and institutions for estate, insurance, donation, etc., purposes. I'll be happy to discuss your needs. |
