Large format (32x25.4cm) book of photographs mostly in colour by German photographer Leni Riefenstahl. Many wonderful illustrations of Nubian native life taken between 1962 and 1969. Film director- Leni Riefenstahl was the first white woman to obtain permission from the Sudanese Government to study the Nuba. Includes a collection of photographs with outstanding anthropological and ethnological importance as well as accompanying commentaries. Her early career in 1930's Germany affected her acceptance later in life due to her status as Adolf Hitler's favourite photographer. Light beige cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine; near fine, with striking brown and black endpapers showing Nuban art. The front free endpaper has a faint bookseller's stamp at the bottom corner. The text is clean and unmarked, and the photographs are very well preserved.
