A look at the Tyrannosaurus Rex discusses the animal's speed, its warm-bloodedness, its dimensions and anatomy, and its gender differences, offering excavation photos and line drawings. John R Horner is one of the greatest palaeontologists of our times and he has done more than most others to deepen our understanding of what the dinosaurs were like in flesh and blood. He is especially famous for his work with baby duckbills, as delightfully described in his "Digging Dinosaurs", but his venture into T. rex was caused by somebody asking him to supervise the excavation of one of the most complete skeletons ever found of this magnificent animal. The dig is described in detail, and then the book moves on to cover the history of T. Rex finds. At the time of publishing, no more than 11 specimens were known of T. Rex, and most of them rather incomplete. This sounds like a rather puny documentation for the most popular of all dinosaurs, but as Horner points out: many of the other dinosaur species "known" actually are based on much less, sometimes just a single tooth.
