About the Author:
In 1995 Martin H. Greenberg was honored by the Mystery Writers of America with the Ellery Queen Award for lifetime achievement in mystery editing. He is also the recipient of two Anthony awards. Mystery Scene magazine called him "the best mystery anthologist since Ellery Queen." He has compiled more than 1,000 anthologies and is the president of TEKNO books. He lives in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

These 13 stories share the theme of the hero still learning, whether in school, as an apprentice, or when the first adventure begins. The quality varies, although all the contributors are experienced authors capable of professional polish. One of the best entries is Esther Friesner's "Roomies," about a new arrival to the Royal Academy of Damsel Arts. Friesner's wit has never failed before and doesn't now. Sherwood Smith's "The Princess, the Page and the Master Cook's Son" is also well done, as is Vera Nazarin's fable, "Three Names of the Hidden God," and G.
