The book is similar to the Illustrated Encyclopedia of Wildlife (Grey Castle, 1990) in that both are arranged according to the scientific classification scheme. Cogger's text is accompanied by colorful and detailed drawings, diagrams, and maps. All this is topped off by the glossy, full-color action photographs that capture the reptiles and amphibians in myriad behaviors and serve to highlight and reinforce the textual information. The depth of coverage and rich visuals make this an excellent resource for libraries serving young adults.
