Tabby the kitten has a brand-new home, a warm bed, and best of all, a little girl to play with. The pictures tell the story in this wordless book, so even the youngest reader can share Aliki's affectionate look at Tabby's first year with her new family. Formatted for tiny hands, this special story is perfect for every child who has ever dreamed of a warm cuddly kitten to love.

About the Author:

With more than 60 fiction and nonfiction titles for children to her credit, Aliki has been delighting her many fans since her first book was published in 1960. Born in New Jersey, she now lives in New York City.

Aliki's books for young readers include the Let's-Read-and-Find-Out titles Digging Up Dinosaurs, Fossils Tell of Long Ago, My Feet, and My Hands. Other nonfiction books by Aliki include How a Book Is Made, Mummies Made in Egypt, My Visit to the Aquarium, My Visit to the Dinosaurs, My Visit to the Zoo, Wild and Woolly Mammoths, and William Shakespeare & the Globe.

From Publishers Weekly:
A girl and her father visit an animal shelter at the start of this cheerful if thin wordless book by the author of the more successful My Visit to the Dinosaurs and How a Book Is Made. The pair takes home a wide-eyed kitten-Tabby-who is subsequently shown lapping up a bowl of milk, sleeping in a basket by the girl's bed, peering out the window as she and her friends build a snowman, and exploring the garden in springtime while the child plays alongside a smiling newborn. Later, with summer in full bloom, a tiny kitten creeps under the garden wall to frolic with Tabby. Finally, this kitten, its young owners, the girl and, of course, Tabby, celebrate Tabby's first birthday. Aliki's warmly hued, appealingly childlike art hints at the tenderness between girl and pet, but many of her compositions seem static and bland. Unfortunately, this volume lacks the whimsy and dimension that-in the best wordless stories-encourage creative interpretation. Ages 3-6.
