PreS-Bush's lively illustrations of the childhood rhyme show the back story-"Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, touch the ground" shows the stuffed toy falling out of a boy's backpack. As the child and his mother continue their way home, Teddy is picked up by a dog and then by a seagull that eventually takes him home. As the verses end, Teddy has climbed into the house and is turning out the boy's bedside light. The last page shows the motions that go with the verses.
