Review:"The book gets so far out of hand that it becomes reminiscent of 'The Sheik'. Mr. Bowles is a better hand at exploring human interiors than he is at the straight adventure tale. Here, as a sort of combination of Henry James and Frederic Prokosch, he fluffs both. His account of Kit Moresby's Moslem captivity cuts in pretty close on Elinor Glynn, too. Which leaves us with little more than a sensitively written report about people just a shade more tangible than ghosts."
