Book Description: Book Condition: New. Publisher/Verlag: HarperCollins US | An Open Letter to a New Generation of Therapists and Their Patients | From the author of Loves Executioner and When Niezsche Wept comes the only "advice" book from this giant among psychotherapists. | An award-winning author of nonfiction and fiction and a practicing psychiatrist, Irvin D. Yalom imparts his unique wisdom from his thirty-five years in clinical practice. This remarkable guidebook for successful therapy is, as Yalom states, "an idiosyncratic melange of ideas and techniques that I have found useful in my work. These ideas are so personal, opinionated and occasionally original that the reader is unlikely to encounter them elsewhere. I selected the eighty-five categories in this volume randomly guided by my passion for the task rather than any particular order or system." Yaloms insights will help enrich the therapeutic process for a new generation of both patients and counselors. A Sampling of the "Tips" Discussed in The Gift of Therapy: - Let the patient matter to you - Empathy: Looking out the patients window - Check into the here-and-now each hour - Feedback: Strike when the iron is cold - Conduct therapy as a continuous session - When your patient weeps - Do home visits - Freud was not always wrong - Acknowledge your errors - Never (almost never) make decisions for the patient | Format: Paperback | Language/Sprache: english | 240 gr | 320 pp. Bookseller Inventory # K9780061719615
