[ix], 259pp. James Lafayette Dickey (1923-1997) was an American poet and novelist, and was appointed the eighteenth United States Poet Laureate in 1966. Deliverance is his first novel, and was adapted into the 1972 film of the same name directed by John Boorman. The setting is the Georgia wilderness, where the state's most remote white-water river awaits. In the thundering froth of that river, in its echoing stone canyons, four men on a canoe trip discover a freedom and exhilaration beyond compare. And then, in a moment of horror, the adventure turns into a struggle for survival as one man becomes a human hunter who is offered his own harrowing deliverance. The book is bound in the original blue paper covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with bumping to the spine ends. some shelf wear on the boards. The contents are tight and clean and the front free endpaper has been flat signed 'James Dickey' by the author. The unclipped dustwrapper has light shelf wear with light bumping to the bottom of the spine and slightly heavier bumping to the top of the spine.
