Kindergarten-Grade 2 Muriel, a smart little girl who is world famous for her tightrope walking, responds to a call for help from the King of Pompandcircumstance. A fire-breathing dragon is terrorizing the kingdom, and, armed with her brain-stimulating peanut-butter cookies, Muriel agrees to find him. With the king following closely behind, she soon finds the foul smelling beast in a dense cloud of smoke. Another cookie and Muriel knows that the solution is to give the poor animal a good scrubbing. After all, how one feels is how one acts. Once bathed, he becomes rather likable and is taken to the palace to become the Royal Steam Heater. And Muriel's reward? A dragon's weight of peanut-butter cookies. Humorous, active cartoon pastel drawings emphasize the derring-do of the heroine and king. The pages are uncluttered and in keeping with the uncomplicated text.
