One night in the Silly Savannah a ludicrous Leopard is leapfrogging to bed and a hat-wearing Hyena is half asleep when all of a sudden there is a terrible racket! The animals decide to follow the noise, but they are in for a big surprise - a tiny shrew and her snoring. She is rudely awakened, only for the animals to slump into a heap fast asleep and start their own snuffling and snoring. Time for shrew to get her own back.

Charles Fuge has been writing and illustrating since 1988. His first picture book,Bush Vark's First Day Out,won The Macmillan Prize and was published whilst he was in his second year at Camberwell School of Art. A year later it went on to win The Mother Goose Award for best newcomer to children's picture books. Charles was brought up and educated in Bath and now lives in Dorset. He is passionate about the natural world and its preservation hence he concentrates on animals and nature in his illustrations. He also plays bass in an alternative pop band.

PreS-K–Conway returns to the African savanna where a leopard, giraffe, baboon, and other animals cannot get to sleep because they are disturbed by snorts and grunts. On their way to find out what is causing the terrible racket, they gather several other tired beasts. They finally discover the source of all the commotion–a tiny shrew in a pink tutu with a very loud snore. Together, the animals growl and screech until they wake the offender and are able to fall asleep. The last page shows that the shrew has plans to make sure the others do not sleep for long. This slight story starts out sounding like it is going to be an adventure in alliteration, but the wordplay stops abruptly on the next page and then appears sporadically in the rest of the book. Fuge's illustrations of goofy, wide-eyed animals reflect the silliness of the text, but some of his drawings border on the grotesque (the giraffe sitting on his rump looks too weird to be funny). And the punch line of the entire tale is given away on the back cover.
