Synopsis

The digital version of a fast paced novel, first published in 2000 with the action taking place in 2014. A long running conspiracy to subjugate Europe is thwarted by the youthful, somewhat vain, Old Etonian, Prime Minister of Great Britain, aided by his ambitious upwardly mobile political ally, together with his wife and her well-connected best friend in the USA.

As the original book's back cover described, the conspiratorial drive for control of Europe is being thwarted by subtle financial dealings, rather than military might. In an uncanny prediction of the events, even now unfolding within the European Union in the late summer of 2011, things seem almost exactly on the book's predicted schedule for a final showdown for the restoration of Europe's democracy before 2014.

The author, former British Merchant Navy navigating officer, Martin Cole, who subsequently made a career in the international oil business, became horrified at the non-democratic course of the Common Market (later the EEC and now the EU) and wrote this novel to alert democrats everywhere of the dangers, even then being faced by the West! Since the first publication, by means of several blogs, he has on an almost daily basis endeavoured to warn his readers of the inevitable crunch point the almost obscene lust for power of those behind the EU project would seemingly inevitably cause the world and its economy.

In an attempt to attract a wider and younger audience, the author included levels of adult content, he himself, at a later age, now finds somewhat embarassing. To preserve the flavour and charcter of the novel, let alone the thread of the plot, such content has been included in this digital version, so readers be warned!

Many of the suppositions which formed the basis of this novel, when it was written in the middle to late nineteen-nineties appear to have been horribly prescient. The novel was first accepted for publication by a well known English family publishing firm which was taken over by a multinational media conglomerate based in Germany - the offer to publish the book in the UK was withdrawn. It was thus first published by Vantage Press in New York in the year 2000. The only digital file of the book that I can today trace was the original file which I first submitted to Vantage Press; therefore there may well be slight drafting changes between the print edition and this version which has also been anglicised, further corrected and lightly edited to remove historical anomalies. (The naval action in the North Sea, for example, has lost some of its force and structure due to the premature scrapping of Britain’s aircraft carriers and Harrier jets.)
