In a course where professors are frequently confronted by students who haven't actually read their textbooks, this text offers a solution. The shortest, most succinct of the books written by Dennis Coon, PSYCHOLOGY: A JOURNEY presents psychology in a way that sparks readers' curiosity, insights, imagination, and interest-getting students "hooked" on psychology and eager to read on. The first author to integrate the proven SQ4R (survey, question, read, recite, relate, and review) active learning system into a psychology textbook, Coon helps readers grasp major concepts, develop a broad understanding of psychology's diversity, and see for themselves how psychology relates to the challenges of everyday life. Because readers become actively involved with the material, they develop a basic understanding of psychology that they take with them into their future courses and careers.

About the Author:
Dennis Coon is a publishing phenomenon and one of the best-selling authors in the field of psychology. His innovative instructional methods and student-focused style make his works perennial favorites among instructors and students alike. To date, more than two million students have learned psychology with a Coon text as their guide. Coon graduated with a B.A. in psychology from the University of California, Riverside, and earned his Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Arizona. He is also co-author, with John O. Mitterer, of INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY: GATEWAYS TO MIND AND BEHAVIOR, 13th Edition and PSYCHOLOGY: A JOURNEY, 5th Edition.
Review:
"The author has accomplished his goal of promoting students' interest in human behavior through his personable writing style. I did not choose Coon's text because of his personal writing approach, although it was an added bonus. I chose his text mainly because after defining the topic, he asks question related to the topic that students may have and provides a direct answer to each question. I find that students ask questions that are similar to Coon's questions and therefore, can redirect them to reread that particular section in the text...The journal entries allow students to relate to the situation occurring in their own life which then prompts them to want to know more about the topic...The author manages to incorporate the example from the journal entry into the chapter as he discusses various related topics, thereby continuing to hold students' interests in the topic and connecting psychological concepts to daily activities."

"This text is an excellent introductory psychology text that provides a wide array of psychology topics and application to real-world experience. It is easily relatable and informative to students and creates a basis for many riveting and dynamic class discussions."
