For most of the Twentieth Century across much of the world, the name "Pocock" has been synonymous with the sport of rowing and the building of racing shells. Now retired from his beloved "rowing game", Stan Pocock presents in "Way Enough!" a kaleidoscope view of events and personages, many of them drawn from the world of rowing, others of them culled from outside the realm of sweating crews, barking coxswains, and demanding coaches.

Those hungry for rowing tales can dine on an abundance of them here. Interspersed throughout are diversions on boat-building, rowing technique and coaching strategy. "Way Enough!" is personal, insightful and direct - a well told tale by a reflective, sensitive man written in the midst of a colorful, interesting life.

About the Author:
Stan Pocock was born in Seattle on October 11, 1923 to Frances and George Pocock. From his earliest days he was immersed in a family tradition of rowing and boatbuilding dating back three generations and more. He spent much of his youth in "the shop" at his father's elbow, absorbing the abundant lore of this most ancient of sports and observing the intricate craftsmanship of master shellbuilder at work. Over three decades father and son together crafted most of the shells and oars used in American rowing.

Almost by chance he discovered and developed his skills as a coach and teacher of rowing after being invited to help the Varsity coach at his alma mater, the University of Washington. Later he helped found the Lake Washington Rowing Club, where the record compiled by crews he coached remains perhaps the most notable in the annals of American Olympic and Pan Am rowing. After his father's retirement, Stan continued building shells while introducing numerous innovations in the design of boats and the use of materials. Since leaving the shop in 1985, he as devoted himself full time to shell repair, coaching and travel. He lives in Seattle with his wife, Suzanne.

Review:
"Stan's book records extraordinary success as well as great disappointments, but always with modesty and..... a sense of humor." -- Frank Cunningham, coach & author (The Sculler At Ease)
