When, after the death of her mother, beautiful Cassandra Trent is told that she must join her aunt and have a London Season, the twenty-year-old is full of rage. Brought up in the Northern town of Bardsley, she is convinced that she will never fit in to polite society -- and neither does she want to. But soon she develops a close relationship with her gentle cousin Susannah, who is a victim of her mother's pushy, social-climbing nature. Susannah, petrified of marrying the charming, wealthy Simeon Giffard, enlists Cassie's help, and soon Lady Berrinden's hopes for her daughter are ruined. It is, after all, Cassie for whom Simeon holds a torch and, despite the danger of losing his good name, somehow he must win the heart of this strong-willed Northern lady . . .

About the Author:
Anna Jacobs grew up in Lancashire and emigrated to Australia in 1973, but loves to return to England and visit her family. She has two adult daughters and lives with her husband in a spacious waterfront home.
From Booklist:
Bowing to her deceased mother's wishes, Cassandra Trent leaves her home in Lancashire and travels to London to stay with her maternal aunt's family in order to enjoy a Season of her own. Upon arriving in the city, Cassandra finds the only one of her relatives that she can bear being around is her cousin Susannah, who is being pushed by her termagant of a mother into a match with Simeon Giffard. Learning that Susannah cannot bear the thought of marrying Simeon, Cassandra tries to help her cousin break her engagement only to discover that although Susannah may not be in love with Simeon, Cassandra is certainly becoming quite fond of the gentleman. Australian author Jacobs demonstrates a true flair for the traditional regency, and this delightfully charming romance is subtly laced with the touches of dry wit and dashes of clever dialogue so beloved by regency fans.
