Elizabeth was visiting Upper Canada Pioneer Village with her grade 7 class when she stepped into Cook's Tavern and heard a man say, "Why it's young Elizabeth Frobisher." Only that wasn't her name. She was Elizabeth Duncan and...she had somehow stepped into the past.

The year is 1813 and the battle between the newly formed United States of America and England for possession of the land called Canada was waging. One of the most decisive battles of the war, the Battle of Crysler's Farm, was about to take place and, stranded in the wrong time, Elizabeth Duncan was about to be an unwilling participant.

From the Author:
I was visiting Upper Canada Pioneer Village with my own kids one hot, sunny summer day. They became bored and went off to find ice-cream. I found myself in one of the old buildings, alone. As I looked around, I began to think: "What if...?(the writer's magic words)...what if a young girl came here on a school field trip and suddenly found herself back in time? Back when this building was new...

Months of research followed. I learned almost more than I really wanted to know about the American War of Independence, the United Empire Loyalists and the War of 1812. But Elizabeth was there to guide me on and keep me enthusiastic. Both of them.

From the Back Cover:
Suddenly Elizabeth looked up. The tall skeleton masts of a war ship came floating out of the mists.

"Jamie!" she screamed. "Sit down! A ship--it's almost upon us!"

But when everyone looked, all they could see were the dark clouds over the lake and empty water. There was no ship!

What was wrong with Elizabeth? Why did she keep seeing things that weren't there?
