Thirteen-year-old Rachel's dreams of a career in ballet dancing are shattered when her parents divorce. Because of my husband's foreign service job, we spent most of our children's younger years moving around from country to country. My daughter, Kathleen, was determined to be a ballet dancer. What if we move somewhere where she can't follow up on her training,I thought. What then? Rachel began to be born in my mind. (Kathleen is now a physiotherapist and fixes up ballet dancers)

About the Author:

Karleen Bradford was born in Ontario and lived in Canada until she was nine years old. She moved with her parents to Argentina, but returned to Canada to attend university. Later she married a Foreign Service Officer, and they and their three children have lived in Colombia and Brazil, the United States, England and the Philippines.

Karleen has written over a dozen books and several short stories. One of her novels, THERE WILL BE WOLVES, won the 1993 Canadian Library Association Young Adult Book Award and was chosen by the American Library Association as one of the Best Books of 1996. Some of her other titles include WRITE NOW!, THE NINE DAYS QUEEN, ANIMAL HEROES, MORE ANIMAL HEROES, SHADOWS ON A SWORD and DRAGONFIRE.
