CLIP - Our collections of Italian literature are world renowned and are represented by Jacopo Peri's L'Euridice (1600) and Girolamo Benivieni's Commento of 1500, with its accompanying letter of the same date. The Hannah, a Academy of Medicine and T. G. H. Drake collections together constitute a large gathering of material in the history of medicine, exemplified by Edward Jenner's epochal work on vaccination (i800). Our great d strengths in historical Canadiana are reflected by Hakluyt's Voyages (i600), an issue of the Canadian e Constellation, Mackenzie's Voyages and a fur trade document, all i800, and, for 1900, Gold in Kootenay, the National Council of Women handbook, and an album . of evocative views of Toronto. Canadian literature is represented by Ralph Connor (an astonishing zi copies of Black Rock dated 1898 to 1900), Archibald Lampman, Grant Allen, Robert Barr, May Agnes Fleming, Gilbert Parker and Sara Jeannette Duncan. This exhibition and catalogue have several themes which run through the centuries, but also arbitrariness caused by chronology. Each case, for instance, contains a Bible, a reflection of the pervasiveness of this text in the s history of Western European civilization. From the grand Hebrew Bible of ca. 1000 to the tiny English Bible of 1900 these books range from magnificently decorated / manuscripts of the late Middle Ages to the equally impressive English illustrated Bible of 1800. Many of the books directly reflect the strengths of the Fisher Library collections. The Hebrew Bible is part of the Friedberg Collection of medieval Hebrew manuscripts and books.
