This monograph, the first to be published on the important New York-based painter Ross Bleckner, accompanies a 1995 mid-career retrospective at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Bleckner's sensual, largely abstract work touches on many of the conceptual issues of the Minimalist generation, while remaining very much connected with the world immediately around him--a series of paintings from the mid-1980s, for example, has been widely interpreted a response to the AIDS crisis, which has particularly affected the arts community.
