About the Author:

Sholem Aleichem, the pen name for Solomon Naumovich Rabinovich, was born March 2, 1859 in Pereyaslav in Ukraine near Kiev. He died May 13, 1916 in New York City and 100,000 people attended his funeral. He is buried on Old Mount Carmel Cemetery in Queens. There is a statue of him in Kiev.
