Added to this new edition are 20 newly discovered Dixon paintings, along with 12 previously unpublished black-and-white photographs, many of them portraits of Dixon taken by Dorothea Lange. Maynard Dixon was, for much of his life, a solitary desert pilgrim. From 1900 until his death in 1946, Dixon roamed the West, drawing, painting, writing, and pursuing an understanding of the region's spirit. He is now considered one of the early modernists, and a renewed interest in his works has them commanding six-figure prices.
