Ferdinand Eckhardt's pianist wife, Sonia Eckhardt-Gramatte, had been married to Walter Gramatte in pre-war Berlin. Her mother had been a teacher of piano and French for 20 years in the household of Count Leo Tolstoy hence included in the photos is a letter from Countess Tolstoy. They were also friends with members of the Group of Seven and corresponded with Arthur Lismer. See attached picture!.
