From the Publisher:
In every organization, there are hundreds of changes that could be made to increase efficiencies, gain market share, or improve profitability. But focusing on the wrong change can be organizational suicide, resulting in missed opportunities, lost momentum, damaged credibility, and squandered resources. MAKING CHANGE HAPPEN ON TIME, ON TARGET, ON BUDGET goes right to the heart of what it takes to thoroughly analyze the change needed, articulate a compelling "business case for change" story, choose an approach that best fits the work culture, and take action to move employees from compliance to commitment.

Confronting head-on the prevailing notion that one size fits all, Matejka and Murphy show clearly how each type of change initiative--from continuous improvement to strategic redirection--requires its own style of leadership, a unique communication plan, different levels of staff involvement, and any number of other implementation strategies to overcome roadblocks and ensure successful completion. With best practices from successful change leaders and dozens of Action Tools--including a Tracking Map that summarizes the book's key learnings and a Tracking Planner to reuse for each change launched--this power-packed toolkit digs deep into the details of the authors' six-step change process to show how every leader, manager, and positive change agent can make the right change at the right time with the right leadership.

From the Author:
Writing this book was indeed a "labor of love." We wrote it with helpful and hopeful intentions--we sincerely wanted to aid managers to successfully lead change! Individually, we have been working with organizations for 25 years. For the past seven years, we have worked together as "co-trainers," trying to help organizations successfully launch and implement changes. Almost every organization we have worked with has had "successful implementation of strategic initiatives" at or near the top of their wish list. Unfortunately, most strategic organizational changes fail! They do not progress on time, on target, on budget. What a waste of time, talent, money, and careers! It doesn't have to be this way. In this book, we offer a simple process, strategies, tactics, and tools to minimize this tendency to failure.

This is a practical, "how-to" book, written for any manager who has the responsibility for spearheading a strategic change. When a strategic initiative is dumped on your already-overflowing plate, what do you do? Where do you start? What is critical for success? How can you see clearly through the "fog" of change?

We have developed, shaped, and perfected the approach we share in this book. In these turbulent times of rapid change and growing ambiguity, managers need a dependable rudder, a practical anchor, and an accurate, tested navigational system.

When you finish this book, you will be familiar with the process we have developed and used in real companies. We have held nothing back!

Ken Matejka and Al Murphy
