Augustus Vincent Tack: Landscape of the Spirit (ISBN: 0943044197 / 0-943044-19-7) Furth, Leslie;Scott, David W.;Chew, Elizabeth V. Quantity Available: 1
Book Description: The Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C., U.S.A., 1993. Pictorial Softcover. Paperback. Book Condition: Good. First Edition. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. A GOOD, clean, tight, scholar/collector-worthy copy. PROLIFICALLY ILLUSTRATED in/with black-and-white and full color Tack artworks and related black-and-white photographs all of the aforementioned with accompanying descriptive captions. From the Foreword: "The work of Augustus Vincent Tack (1870-1949) is well known only to frequent visitors to The Phillips Collection and to a relatively small group of scholars, curators, collectors, and cognoscenti. The reason is that Duncan Phillips bought or commissioned many of Tack's abstract paintings, and later the artist's widow bequeathed more of his work to the museum. As a result, most of Tack's best paintings are virtually impossible to see elsewhere. The Museum of Modern Art, for example, managed to acquire its only painting by the artist in 1979, purchased directly from The Phillips." 143 pages.
