Halloween is coming, and Sylvie Ann wants to make a pumpkin moonshine (or jack-o'-lantern), so she sets out across her Grandmummy and Grandpawp's cornfields to find "the very finest and largest pumpkin." Once she finds it, the problem is how to get it home. This fine, large pumpkin is so big, Sylvie Ann can't carry it. So she rolls it across the field, like a snowball in winter, until she reaches the edge of the field where the ground slopes down. And suddenly, the pumpkin begins running away down the hill! Can Sylvie catch it before it frightens the goats, terrifies the hens, enrages the geese, and bumps into Mr. Hemmelskamp who is carrying a pail full of whitewash?

Tasha Tudor (1915–2008) was a Caldecott artist with more than ninety books to her credit. SIGNED VINTAGE 55th Anniversary Edition published by The Jenny Wren Press courtesy of Random House in 1993. including the hard-to-find recreated "Dear Tasha" letter! Signed delicately on the title page "T. Tudor 1993". Hardback book with dust jacket. The white background jacket states "The 55th Anniversary Edition" on the cover. Although there is no pre-printed price on the jacket, there is a price-sticker of "29.95" on the back flap which I think was the original price from Jenny Wren (book was acquired from a collector who lived near The Jenny Wren Press in Mooresville, Indiana). The very good white jacket has a few spots/smudges (more so on the back cover) and still has the original "pumpkin colored" ribbon tied to it! I didn't note any tears. The blue linen book is NEAR FINE: sharp, tight, crisp and clean with no writing (other than Tudor's), no tears and no page folds. Includes a charming recreated letter to Tasha from "Sylvie-Ann" who was a young reader. This copy would make a great gift-but there are some spots on the white jacket. Signed by Author(s).
