Those who don't know the denouement to this more than 60-year-old classic by two-time Caldecott Honor artist Tasha Tudor will not be surprised to find a happy ending to this exquisite, gentle story. Tudor's delicate orange-framed watercolors of a rural autumn and a bonneted little girl speak to a softer side of Halloween--one that is not overtaken by werewolves, blood, and gore, but is a reminder of the season in all its fresh abundance. Tasha Tudor has over 90 books to her credit, including The Dolls' Christmas and Caldecott Honor book, 1 Is One. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

Book Description Hardback. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Tasha Tudor (illustrator). SIGNED VINTAGE 55th Anniversary Edition published by The Jenny Wren Press courtesy of Random House in 1993. including the hard-to-find recreated "Dear Tasha" letter! Signed delicately on the title page "T. Tudor 1993". Hardback book with dust jacket. The white background jacket states "The 55th Anniversary Edition" on the cover. Although there is no pre-printed price on the jacket, there is a price-sticker of "29.95" on the back flap which I think was the original price from Jenny Wren (book was acquired from a collector who lived near The Jenny Wren Press in Mooresville, Indiana). The very good white jacket has a few spots/smudges (more so on the back cover) and still has the original "pumpkin colored" ribbon tied to it! I didn't note any tears. The blue linen book is NEAR FINE: sharp, tight, crisp and clean with no writing (other than Tudor's), no tears and no page folds. Includes a charming recreated letter to Tasha from "Sylvie-Ann" who was a young reader. This copy would make a great gift-but there are some spots on the white jacket. Signed by Author(s).
