Courage

I have been told courage will get me through this grief. To be brave. These are brash words from individuals who wear not my shoes. Silently in mind I ask for them to be more compassionate, put themselves within my heart. The amount of strength it takes for me to get up in the morning to face another day. I buried my life when I buried my child. I have walked where those who pray, pray they never will. Today I am alive. Courage is for someone stepping through a line of fire to carry a comrade out on his shoulders, to breathe life into his dead lungs. Courage is for those who choose to enact it, then commit to it. It does not take courage to survive the death of a child. It is determination, strength, and weakness that will get me through this grief. Many times I have wanted to die with this sorrow. My love for life has become my weakness.
