On Saturdays a glance into the Children's room will give proof that the bond between the Library and the teachers is strengthening as the years go by. Moreover, the number of books drawn on the teachers' cards has increased 96 per cent, during the past year. Special grade shelves have been provided for the use of the teachers and care has been taken to be ready to supply the demand. With the beginning of the school year it was made possible for the teacher to draw books for class room use through the branches and reading rooms, these books being delivered from the Central Library by special messenger. This has proved a welcome innovation. Stories have been told the children every Friday afternoon and on special days, and the picture bulletins with their lists of suggestive books have been decorative and of interest. The one of especial appeal to the boys was on the city of Washington suggested by the election, and the demand for "Among the law-makers," "The young citizen" and books of that character by our embryo politicians for some time could not be satisfied. On one Friday Miss Kate Failing gave a delightful talk to the children on her Egyptian experiences, illustrated by photographs and postal cards. The celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of the birth of Joel Chandler Harris on December 8th, gave the children a glimpse into the life and customs of a part of our country quite new to them. A clever and most attractive bulletin of "Brer Rabbit and Mr. Fox" was kindly made by Miss Wrigley of Macon, Georgia, and "Uncle Remus" stories were read in the inimitable dialect by Mrs. De Bow.
