Not illustrated. 1852 Excerpt: ... reader will not fail to remark the large and remarkable discordance between thePulkowa measures in 1840, 1841, and 1842, and those taken here. These differences appear to arise from some optical equation on the part of the observer, which is at present but little understood. Mr. Hind has pointed out a similar difference between the angles of position of Neptune-s satellite observed by Mr. O. Struve, and those taken by Messrs. Lassell and Bond. 2 2087. A double star discovered by Struve at Dorpat. Both stars are white and of 8-9 magnitudes. A single night-s measures here in 1846 give an angle differing little more than 1 from Struve-s mean result, 1830. O 11 Struve 183071 291-77 5737 Bishop 184642 290-53.... This star appears to be Lalande 30447. It was also observed by Professor Challis at Cambridge-in 1842. Reducing the position of the Histoire Celeste to this year, we have, Right Ascension. Declination, h m s o 1 11 Lalande 16 35 56-91 +23 58 14-8 Challis 16 35 57-32 +23 58 15-1 2 2107. Discovered by Struve at Dorpat. The angle is increasing, but the distance appears pretty nearly stationary. O 11 Struve 1829-81 14863 1-127 1836-54 156-43 1-2S7 Bishop 1840-70 161-98 1-268 1842-68 162-25.... This star does not occur in Lalande. 20 Draconis. 2 2118. A very close double star, detected by Sir W. Herschel. The components are now equal and of the 7th magnitude, but it is stated by Sir William in his original entry that they were "considerably unequal." It appears difficult to decide at present whether the stars are really fixed, though a comparison of the various measures might rather lead us to adopt such a conclusion. This object was considered by its discoverer one of the most minute of all his double stars. The following are the measures at diffe...
