Abbott didn't say anything.
The sergeant stepped in front of the bike. "Turn it off."
Abbott pulled out a cigarette and lit it.

Abbott put down his kickstand and turned off his lights.
"License," the Sergeant said.
"Yes sir!" Abbott reached in his pocket and held out the license.
The Sergeant turned, stepped to the left of the bike to take the license. It happened so fast that I didn't see it coming. Abbott dropped the clutch and hit the gas. The Yamaha leaped forward, just brushing the cop and did a partial wheelie. You could hear the cycle wind up. He must have been hitting seventy before he'd gone one hundred feet.
The Sergeant practically did a dance in the street.
"Goddamn it! Get that sone of a bitch!"
