The Book The idea of the book is not to replace the many exisiting books on lasers available. Rather it is to discuss the various pitfalls, complications and controversies surrounding the use of lasers in dermatology and aesthetic medicine. Since their introduction into medicine, lasers have been used very widely in dermatology in particular. Understandably this had led to more and more practitioners buying and using laser equipment with less than adequate knowledge and expertise. In this book, Dr Goldberg (who is an acknowledged expert - see below) highlights the key problems and difficulties that can be encountered in the various dermatological applications of lasers and explains the controversies to the non-expert. The aim is therefore to improve the quality of laser practice amongst dermatologists by explaining things from a user's point of view and in language the dermatologist will understand. This is a genuinely different skin laser book and will be immensely valuable to clinicans. Why is it different to the other books? Since the introduction of lasers in dermatology, a great number of books have been published on the applications from removal of port wine stains to tattoo reversal. However, there is no other book that explores the more controversial aspetcs of laser treatment and shows the perils of using lasers incorrectly. Conversely, this book also provides the reader with tips as to how to improve the safe and effective use of lasers. The author is ideally qualified for this task as one of the most experienced and long standing laser practitioners in the world.
