About this title:
Synopsis:
Twelve miles above the Pacific Ocean, a missile strikes a jumbo passenger jet. The flight crew is crippled or dead. Now, defying both nature and man, three survivors must achieve the impossible. Land the plane.

From master storyteller Nelson DeMille and master pilot Thomas Block comes Mayday, the classic bestseller that packs a supersonic shock at every turn of the page....the most terrifyingly realistic air disaster thriller ever.

Like a growing tidal wave, the escaping air was gathering momentum. A teenaged girl in aisle 18, seat D, near the port-side aisle, her seat dislocated by the original impact, suddenly found herself gripping her seat track on the floor, her overturned seat still strapped to her body. The seatbelt failed and the seat shot down the aisle. She lost her grip and was dragged after it. Her eyes were filled with horror as she dug her nails into the carpet, as the racing air pulled her toward the yawning hole that led outside. Her cries were unheard by even those passengers who sat barely inches away from her struggle. The noise of the escaping air was so loud that it was no longer decipherable as sound, but seemed instead a solid thing pounding at the people in their seats......

About the Author:
Nelson DeMille is the author of fourteen previous novels -- see his website at NelsonDemille.net for numerous book details. He lives on Long Island, New York.

Thomas Block has written a number of aviation-oriented novels, many which have gone on to acquire best-seller status in numerous countries. His novel writing began with the publication of "Mayday" in 1979. With his boyhood friend, novelist Nelson DeMille, "Mayday" was extensively rewritten and republished in 1998. "Mayday" became a CBS Movie of the Week in October, 2005.

Several of the other novels by Block include "Orbit" (a top bestseller in Germany, among other nations), "Airship Nine", "Forced Landing" (also done as a radio serialization drama in Japan), "Skyfall", "Open Skies" and his newest novel, "Captain". Thomas Block is still writing both fiction and non-fiction, and has edited and updated his earlier novels into ebooks in all the major formats and also into new full-sized (trade paperback) printed versions.

Captain Thomas Block has been a pilot since 1959, and since 2002 he has lived on a ranch in Florida with his wife Sharon where they board, compete and train horses. His website at ThomasBlockNovels.com contains additional information about Thomas Block's novels.

From AudioFile:
An unusual twist is added to the "airplane in peril" plot. A high-altitude supersonic jumbo jet has been hit by a drone missile; oxygen deprivation kills some but leaves most passengers brain-damaged zombies. Five passengers and flight attendants escape injury and must land the plane. The authors defeat predictability by mixing in the military and the airline company: Both want this embarrassing problem to vanish without a trace. David Dukes establishes individual vocal personalities, bringing to the narration the fear and tension of those fighting to save the plane, as well as those desperate to destroy it. Especially chilling is his expression of the unintelligible grunts and moans of the injured passengers who are milling through the plane, terrified. Expect a knotted stomach throughout this thriller.
