From the Author:
Me An' Hal is a truly funny book, though definitely not slap-stick comedy. It shows how a couple of nearly down and out, not too well educatated, older guys think and act when faced with numerous unexpected events.
The story is rife with both oddball and serious charactors, and pokes fun of them all. The reader will find it difficult to second guess what is going to happen next, but can be assured that there will be a good laugh on just about every page. This book has a "feel good" ending, and will leave readers in a happy, if not contemplative mood.
The story begins with Mugsie, a practical, down to earth, retired petty thief, who is explaining his present situation. He describes his best friend and room-mate, Hal, a burly-pie-in-the-sky dreamer who is a retired con-man. Hal was a high school graduate, so he is well regarded by Mugsie. After a series of circumstances, which Mugsie describes, the reader discovers that Mugsie was telling his problems to a specific person. When he finishes, the story continues in present-time mode.
There are sequences where Hal pretends to be a famous scientist and Mugsie is confronted by embarracing situations. They meet a scewball detective; a fake FBI woman, an angry police lieutenant; are captured by the evil Komodo Dragon, and threatened by various thugs along the way.
This book is suitable for teenagers on up. Everyone who has read Me An' Hal is asking for the sequel, which will be ready by April, 2011. .
