About the Author:

Debbie Spingarn works as a columnist for the Norwood Transcript and Bulletin in Norwood, Ma., just outside Boston. She is also a master's educated teacher. Born and raised in York, Pennsylvania, she wrote her first column for the Junior York Dispatch's Kids' page at age 10, earning $1.00 for her efforts. She holds an undergraduate degree from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and migrated to New England to attend Boston University where she received a master's degree in journalism. She settled in Norwood, which remains her home. She is the mother of two daughters, Hannah and Caroline, and lives with them and her husband, Jerry, along with dog Sophie, whom Debbie enjoys writing about.
