Gr 7 Up-Raven, 15, lives in a small Canadian village. Her older sister, Marcie, moves to Vancouver with their 19-year-old cousin. When Marcie's letters stop all of a sudden, Raven leaves Egmont to find her. She soon finds out that her sister's life is not as glamorous as she made it out to be in her letters home. She lives in a seedy section of town and has become addicted to drugs. Raven meets some of the neighborhood people and enlists their help in finding her sister, who, as it turns out, is about to be shipped off to Asia with a group of other young people and sold at auction. Silvey's characters and setting come to life, and readers will surely sense the protagonist's fish-out-of-water feelings and appreciate her determination to get her sister back. All of the horrors of the drug culture are clearly brought home in this story that readers won't be able to put down.
