From the Author:
Quality Assurance (QA) is the most neglected activity in the software development industry. Most software developers think that QA means testing alone! Even testing is not always fully carried out. It is accepted by the software development industry that 100% testing is not possible. There are assessment systems which started out as quality assessment systems but decayed over a decade and a half to be certificate dispensing agencies. These are the reasons that necessitate release of a patch within three months of releasing of the product. There are books on software quality assurance but are found wanting when it comes to achieving quality in the real life.
What is more, the term "quality" itself is ill defined with more than one definition in vogue. This book discusses all current definitions and provides a comprehensive definition of "quality" as it should be.I have covered Software QA in all its facets in this book. This book guides the reader from the evolution of the quality assurance from the artisan days to modern industry. It provides guidelines on how to achieve quality at the program level, project/product level and at the organizational level. It also provides a new method of assessing the quality of an organization. It provides many formats, templates, standards and guidelines that can be implemented in the organizations. All these are provided as a download for the purchasers of the book!Above all, this is the first time a quantitative method is given to measure the quality of a software product delivered by a contractor along with easily locatable sources of data for computing the metric. Set of metrics that can be used for improving the organization are provided along with the method of computing them. This book shows how to use these metrics and improve quality of the software product in the organization. I am proud to have written this book and glad that it found a publisher (J.Ross Publishing, Inc. Fl, USA) willing to risk publishing it. The reader, unless heavily biased/prejudiced, would find great value from this book. I wrote this book from personal experience coupled with academic study of the subject after spending nearly four decades in various organizations, big and small. As Bob Anderson, one of the reviewers put it, a few minutes of time spent in reading this book, can save the organization and the country millions.
