Rag Rug Handbook (ISBN: 1883010284 / 1-883010-28-4) Meany, Janet;Pfaff, Paula Quantity Available: 1
Book Description: Interweave, USA, 1996. Paperback, 127pp, colour and b/w ills, photos of authors on inside back cover. Acknowledgements, introduction, glossary, suppliers list, extensive bibliography, and index; 5 chapters covering getting started (choosing and buying a loom), weaving preparation (rags, warp thread etc), designing, history of the craft and looms, and projects. The projects chapter comprises 20 examples of two and four shaft weaving ranging from a bathmat to a room-size rug, all with detailed instructions and diagrams. The history chapter is a delight: anecdotes from weavers, advertisements, pictures of looms, and a narrative explaining how rag rug weaving became a source of income and personal satisfaction for many American women otherwise denied access to employment. Seller's communication with co-author Janet Meany indicates that the craft is her passion and a delight, which is almost certainly why Rag Rug Weaving is such a superb book. It's also in excellent condition (perfect bound rather than the spiral binding of the original edition) with only the most minimal reading wear.
