Author P. M. H. Atwater knows what it's like to die. And the experience so changed her life that she has devoted years to researching the phenomenon of the Near-Death Experience. From her own encounter with life-after-death and from interviews with hundreds of others, she presents this remarkable and reassuring vision into a world beyond the one we know:What it feels like to die, What awaits us after we see the light, Why many who are rescued from death don't want to come back, Why some people encounter hellish experiences, How life changes after a Near-Death Experience And much more!

About the Author:
PMH Atwater is an internationally renowned authority on near-death expereinces. She is one of the original researchers in the field, having begun her work in 1978. To date, she has had sessions with nearly 4,000 adult and child experinecers of near-death states, and has written 8 books on her findings. She has spoken twice at the United Nations, as well as numerous conferences and seminars around the world. She has appeared on such TV shows as Geraldo, Sally Jessy Raphael, Larry King Live, Regis & Kathy Lee, Entertainment Tonight, and the Shirly Show in Canada.
From Library Journal:
Books chronicling near-death experiences, like Betty J. Eadie's recent best seller, Embraced by the Light (Gold Leaf Pr., 1992), tend to find an eager audience among readers who are fascinated by psychic phenomena or who seek assurance of an afterlife. With its detailed examples of near-death experiences ranging from ecstatic to hellish, this book will surely find a receptive audience too. About half the book is devoted to the apparent aftereffects on near-death survivors, including psychological and physiological changes as well as enhanced psychic powers. In contrast to this work, Susan Blackmore provides a more skeptical and scholarly approach in Dying To Live: Near-Death Experiences (Prometheus Bks, 1993). Whereas Atwater presents all reported phenomena as evidence of an afterlife, Blackmore offers explanations based on the natural biological responses of a dying brain. Most public libraries would do well to have both books.
