Alex Katz: Flowers and Landscapes -- October 8 - November 8, 2003 (ISBN: 1930743319 / 1-930743-31-9) Katz, Alex;Katz, Vincent;PaceWildenstein (Firm) Quantity Available: 1
Book Description: PaceWildenstein, New York City, New York, 2003. Illustrated Softcover. Book Condition: Fine. Not Given. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. "Alex Katz's work is about paint and painting. There is always a lot of the feeling of paint, even if the actual amount applied is minimal. In fact, he works that fulcrum: maximum punch for minimum outlay-outlay in amount of paint and of time. Second thoughts impede the stroke. One might expect that from expressionist painting, but Katz's paintings look like they were swamlessly floated onto the canvas in one fell swoop. Katz is a figure who is always thinking. He thinks broadly, tries to put his art in different camps, fields of thought, and human activity. He took early positions, in lectures, against Hegelianism and Existentialism. In a 1960 talk at the Showhegen School of Painting and Sculpture, in Maine, Katz stated. 'Existentialism} seems newer and more interesting than the ideas of Picasso and Matisse, and yet it doesn't seem to have anything to do really with our culture here now.' Katz also implied that art does not proceed in a linear fashion." This book has 48 pages and is profusely illustrated.
