Albert Bitzius), 4. 10. 1797 Murten (Kanton Fribourg) - 22. 10. 1854 Lützel¿üh (Kanton Bern). G. stammte aus einem Pfarrhaus, besuchte das Gymnasium in Bern (1812-14) und studierte anschließend bis 1820 Theologie an der Berner Akademie. Er unterbrach seine Vikariatszeit bei seinem Vater in Utzenstorf (Oberaargau) durch einen Studienaufenthalt in Göttingen und eine Reise durch den Norden Deutschlands (1821- 1822). Danach war er wieder Vikar in Utzenstorf; nach dem Tod seines Vaters wurde er 1824 nach Herzogenbuchsee, 1829 nach Bern und 1831 nach Lützel¿üh im Emmental versetzt; hier erhielt er 1832 eine Pfarrstelle. Sein politisches Engagement für den Liberalismus fand mit der Verfassung von 1831 ein Ende; sie verbot Geistlichen die politische Betätigung. Stattdessen trat er in der Nachfolge J. H. Pestalozzis und der Schweizer Volksaufklärung für die Verbesserung des Erziehungswesens und der sozialen Verhältnisse ein; seine Kritik an der Berner Erziehungspolitik trug 132 pp. Deutsch.
