In ihrer interdisziplinär angelegten ideologiekritischen Herangehensweise, die gerade durch die Vielfalt und Gegensätzlichkeit der Bilder in den verschiedenen Diskurskontexten Rechnung trägt, sieht sich die Arbeit u.a. der anglophonen Cultural Studies Tradition verpflichtet.
