Both the book and photograph (in cloth portfolio) fit inside the larger cloth slipcase. Hardcover. Textured light gray paper-covered boards, with title stamped in black on spine, with photographically illustrated dust jacket. Photographs by Candida Höfer. Introduction (in English) by Umberto Eco (translated from the Italian by Alastair McEwen). Candida Hofer's rooms are densely packed with the freight of every person who exhaled in its spaces before she arrived with her view camera and her sense of gravity, history, and keen awareness of the sites of intellectual discovery.
