Francesca Woodman became interested in photography in her early teens. This volume, combining text by Woodman, and by those who knew her, with many of her unpublished images, shows her intense relation with the camera. In 1981, Francesca Woodman died at the age of 22. 90 duotone photos.

"Although her artistic enterprise ended abruptly, it does not seem unfair, especially in light of the hagiographic enterprise of this book, to see if her pictures reward critical viewing. Her photographs imply that she was aware, as an artist and as a woman, of how the body could activate a site; of how her presence provided a sculptural, existential, and narrative weight to her elegantly empty but ultimately vague interiors. This volume contains just under 100 photographs, many of which are lovely and haunting, but it also clearly illustrates a limited repertoire; literally and figuratively, she seems to have built herself a cage in which to prowl and prance."
