About the Author:

Having studied law, worked as a judge within Espírito Santo State, a fact that would provide material for one of his most remarkable works - the novel Canaan, with great editorial success published in 1902. Magistrate, diplomat, novelist, essayist, brilliant writer, sometimes confusing, wrote little, with a lot of noise. In France, he published the drama Malazarte in 1911. In 1920, already in Brazil, published A estética da vida (The aesthetics of life) and, three years later, A correspondência de Joaquim Nabuco e Machado de Assis (Correspondence of Joaquim Nabuco and Machado de Assis). In the famous Semana da Arte Moderna (Modern Art Week), held in Sao Paulo Municipal Theater, Graca Aranha delivers, on 02/13/1922, the conference called: ?A emoção estética na arte moderna? (The aesthetic emotion in modern art).
