Marcel Duchamp left behind a large volume of correspondence, more than a thousand documents that form a valuable source for our knowledge of the artist's personality and work. In his letters, Duchamp talks of his latest plans and works in progress. Once sending a series of connecting postcards to his next-door neighbors, Walter and Lou Arensberg, Duchamp's creative use of the postal service within the realm of artistic activity can be seen as a precursor to mail art.
